British Club 'B' down Dilmun

BRITISH Club 'B' celebrated their promotion into division
one of the 2009-10 Bahrain Netball League with a 22-17 victory over Dilmun Champion 'B' last night at the British
Club in Adliya, reports PATRICK SALOMON.
After a see-saw first quarter that saw both clubs deadlocked at 5-5, British
'B' managed to take a one-goal lead, 9-8, into half-time and later held on to a narrow 13-12 advantage after three
quarters.
They fought hard to extend the gap in the final canto, and were rewarded in the end as they claimed their
victory by a comfortable five-goal margin. Eliana was named the player of the match for British 'B', while Hayley
Loftus was adjudged the top performer for Dilmun 'B'.
In division two, group leaders Dilmun Champion 'C'
maintained their unbeaten record with a 28-20 win against British Club 'C'.
Sam Carlsson spearheaded her
side in the contest, and lifted them to a 13-10 lead at the break. They closed out the win well over the final two periods,
holding their rivals to just two goals in the third quarter before cruising in the fourth.
Miranda White was named
the best player for British 'C'.
Meanwhile, National Trading Company-Sri Lanka Club scored their first
victory of the season with a 23-18 triumph over Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC) 'B'. The winners opened the
game leading 7-5 after one, and over the course of the contest gradually extended their gap. They took a 19-12 cushion into
the fourth, and never looked back.
Deshani was the best performer for Sri Lanka, while Lauren Tearney was the player
of the match for BRFC 'B'. Last night's other fixture between BRFC 'A' and Dilmun Champion 'A'
was postponed to this Sunday.

DEFENDING
champions British Club 'A' continued their winning ways in the Bahrain Netball League last night with a convincing
24-6 victory over Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC) 'A' at the BRFC courts in Saar, reports Patrick Salomon. British 'A', who are gunning for an unprecedented sixth successive
title this season, took control of the match early and masterfully carried their momentum all the way to the final whistle. Seonaid Biagioni was adjudged the player of the match for the victors,
who took their fourth successive win to end the first round of the league. Jeanine Wessels was the best player for BRFC 'A',
who will be hoping to get their campaign back on track when league action resumes next week for round two. Also taking a win were Dilmun Champion Social '1', who defeated Dilmun Champion
'B' 25-17. Sheila Roche was named the player
of the match in the win, while Becky was the top performer of Dilmun 'B'. In yesterday's final game, British Club 'C' ousted BRFC 'B' 13-6. Louise
and Amanda were the leading talents of the game for their respective squads. Another fixture between British Club 'B' and Dilmun Champion Social '2'
was not played; while three teams received byes on the final day of the opening round. They included Dilmun Champion's
'A' and 'C' teams, and National Trading Company-sponsored Sri Lanka Club.

The result maintained the defending
champions' unbeaten record after just two games early on in the season. Dilmun 'A' suffered their first loss after
opening their campaign last week with a win. Claire Maidment was named the player of the match for British Club 'A',
while Mel Goosen was adjudged the top performer for Dilmun 'A'.
Meanwhile, top title challengers
Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC) 'A' got their season off to a good start with a resounding 23-3 triumph over Dilmun
Champion 'B'.
It was the first game of the new year for BRFC 'A', who were spearheaded by
Helen Hind. Sally Vause faced Dilmun 'B' in what was their second successive defeat.
League action continues
on Tuesday next week with five matches at the BRFC in Saar.
