DUBAI 'A' powered to an impressive 19-9 win over Abu Dhabi 'A' yesterday to clinch the Championship Cup
in the Riffa Views Inter-Gulf Netball Championships.
The victors secured back-to-back titles in the annual event, while also claiming their eighth victory in the past nine

2008 Inter Gulf Netball Championships
The Hucclecote Netball coaches Gilly Salter and Liz Banyard visited Bahrain to conduct 10 days of
intensive training with the Bahrain Netball squad teams, in preparation for the Riffa Views Intergulf Netball Championships.

Salter was also in Bahrain in November of last year with fellow England coach Sue Wainwright where they began the players'
training for the competition.
he Bahrain Netball League are proud to have hosted the 22nd Inter-Gulf Netball Championships, held at the Bahrain
Rugby Football Club grounds over the weekend of 7-8 March 2008, sponsored by RIFFA VIEWS Signature Estates.
The Riffa Views Inter-Gulf Netball Championships 2008 featured 23 teams. Teams were split into 2 pools, initially
played matches against each other to determine their pool ranking.
The top 8 teams proceeded to the Championship
Cup play-offs. The next 8 teams played-off for the Plate. The remaining teams played-off for the Bowl.
Eight
of the top teams from the 2007 tournament also played in a separate competition, called the Invitational Cup, against
a representative team from Hucclecote Netball Club in England.

The Inter-Gulf Netball Championships were first held at what is now the Airport Le Meridien Hotel with seven teams participating
from Oman, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The number of teams taking part in the event has grown rapidly and as the hosting of such a large event became too much
for one club to undertake on an annual basis, it was decided to rotate the venue each year. The tournament grew from a one
day competition to a two day event to allow more games to be played, and to give visitors more time to appreciate the location.
The tournament is the largest sporting event for women in the Gulf region, with over 200 players partcipating from all
of the GCC and with International umpires adjudicating from various netball playing nations. This year sees the introduction
of the first mini-tournament for men.
